i spent your silhouette
on the haunting cardboard cartons of a movement
found respect
in unlikely corner shop dramatics
writing for effect
a million midnight candles
lighting all my paper trails
baby thoughts escaped from vapor

and i'm unglued by the thought
that i'm losing

for all our years of trying
ideals dissolved in time-blind sliding
but i'm finding i'm still smiling
cause i've found the footnote we've all missed

and i carved our names into the sun
in twelve thousand mile high letters
obscured by the corona
and i built a house out on the waves
and i watched it sink brick by brick
just as fast as they were laid
and i put a day in between the days
twenty-four hours of atmosphere
designed to unsuffocate
and i named it with a secret name
incorruptible
and unsung by gods of apathy

and i'm not done digging the whole
and i'm not done digging the whole done digging...

the hardest was the light
i've got a tense infatuation
with incendiary might
and i burned a few ones down
before i got it right
but i live and learn

and the beams across the page
subnanosecond nomads
floating fleeting in my gaze
sacrificed in ink scrawl notes
and blueprints for the pending stays of midnights
and the bending of the timelines
that my newfound talent has afforded all of us

and i carved our names into the sun
in twelve thousand mile high letters
obscured by the corona
and i built a house out on the waves
and i watched it sink brick by brick
just as fast as they were laid
and i put a day in between the days
twenty-four hours of atmosphere
designed to unsuffocate
and i named it with a secret name
incorruptible
and unsung by gods of apathy
